MyGeotab - Workaround for long running/large reports

0

Q: I am trying to pull a large Excel/PDF report and I keep getting a Timeout error:

('message:This page is not responding, name:timeout, flags:isNetworkException')

Why is this occurring and do you have a workaround for me?

A: This message occurs because the report you are trying to run is fairly large and is taking longer than the browser timeout period. When the "Timeout Period" is exceeded, the browser "Timeouts" and throws this error and stops trying to run the report (it's a limitation set on the browser side, not by Geotab).

Fortunately there is a work-around!!!

You simply have to "prime" the system and then run the desired Excel/PDF report. See below for an example using the "Fuel Usage Report"

Steps: Go to the specific section of MyGeotab that your desired report is situated in:

Ex. Engine and Maintenance --> Fuel Usage Report ---> Click on Report (or whichever specific report you require) and do not change the options (by default the Time Range will be "Today" and "No vehicles" will be selected). Let this report load - this will "Prime" / load an empty UI version of the desired report.

Next click 'Options' --> Choose desired Time Period and select Vehicles and do NOT click on Apply Changes!
--> Instead click on the Excel or PDF Report Icon. Another tab will open up while the report runs in the background. It is now time to grab your favourite caffeinated beverage that you will enjoy while going through the new report.
Note: It is important that you do NOT close this background tab - when the report is done running it will download to your PC.

Note: This is a work-around for when a large report is required 'On-Demand.' We always suggest scheduling reports that you will be running regularly. Set it once and it will be emailed to your inbox. Fast, Convenient and Easy!

Can you expand on the limitations of sending email by Geotab? Specifically to a large groups of users for very large customers.

Hello Michael,

This information is available in the Product Guide but I've included a screenshot of this information below.

(Note: This information is subject to change in a future version of MyGeotab so we always suggest checking the Product Guide for the most up to date information).

Yes - the development team is actively looking into modifying these limits as required for larger customers. They are looking into implementing these changes in future builds of MyGeotab.
