Confusion about Zone uploading

0

I'm having multiple issues with Zones.

  1. The Dec 2014 release notes talk about the ability to export a list of invalid zones from the Import Zone page. I can't find this feature. What am I missing?
  2. The sample Excel spreadsheets in the online help and manual don't work for me--are there any actual .XLS templates available?
  3. Both the Zone size and shape can be set in options. Why are they also in the Excel template?
  4. Couldn't all of the items in Options be set in an Excel file? This would make for much more efficient zone uploads.
  5. Are there any plans to allow GPX or other GPS file uploads, to support non-square/non-circle zone uploads?

Hi Peter,

The ability to export invalid zones is available in the new MyGeotab version. You should see this option under the Import Zones section.

When uploading the zones in an excel file, you do not need any headers for the columns, as the system will start making the zones from row A of excel. Other than that, please make sure you do not add any formatting in the file.

At this time, we offer both options for customer ease. However, if the zone shape and size are defined under the excel file, they will take priority over the options in the zone importer.

These options are included so they can be set by the customer, again for customer ease. These may be added as options into the excel file in the future.

Currently we allow .shp files to import zones through the Geotab SDK. These other file options may be included in the future

Thanks,

Taimoor

Also, would it be possible to add the ability to define a list of Groups for each zone, and a list of zone types in the Excel file?

Also, how long is the processing delay before valid zones show up? I've uploaded zones, found them to be all valid (in the Zone Import tab), and then been unable to see any of them listed in the Zones tab for a while, even after logging out and in again.

This complicates the process, because several users (myself included) keep uploading zones not attached to groups, so that every user in our national organization sees them. Without seeing them immediately, I'm unable to delete these mistakes unless I get help from our account manager.

Please ignore the 18:04 comment. I didn't realize I had to click the Import button after uploading the excel file.

Doh!

Hi Peter,

The ability to add an individual group type to zones is not yet available in the Import Zone function in MyGeotab, aside from the global group functon that is found under Options. For something like this, the SDK is a great tool that can used.

In terms of the processing time for the Zones, it depends on how many zones are imported. The zones are usually imported very quickly, however the more you have the more processing time required.

Thanks,

Taimoor
