Average RPM Calculation

What is the best way to calculate the average of RPM for a vehicle's trip?

If we just calculate the average of the values collected by the GO, we would have a good indicator, but not exactly the real profile. I thing it should be on the same way that average speed is calculated

Maybe we should consider also the time between logs, and an average of values between logs

What do you think?

Hey Cesar,

Looking at light duty vehicles that operate with OBDII it does not seem available: You can look up ODBII mode 1 here as a quick reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II_PIDs#Mode_01

Having spoken to several members of the firmware team the average RPM is not a readily available diagnostic. If we wanted this value calculated per trip it would need to be recorded and calculated by the GO device - in other words not using our curving algorithm. This would require it's own business case.

As far as work arounds go, you could take an exponential curve (which I mentioned before already) of the RPM's given by curved logging we track:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exponential_smoothing
It is also a feature available in excel: http://www.excel-easy.com/examples/exponential-smoothing.html
