This is a great question. You should absolutely be able to get an Idling rule to send an exception when "Inside" one specific zone or zone type. You should be able to click on the pencil icon next to Idling or Fleet Idling to create a custom rule based off those conditions. When clicking the pencil icon next to the rule, you will be led to the "Exception Rule Edit" page. From that page you will be able to click on the conditions tab. The only condition you would need to add as you stated is "Inside" and then select the zone or zone type. You may also want to look into adjusting some of the other conditions like the time required for this exception to trigger. By default it the rule is set to trigger after 20 minutes of idling but that can be changed to a shorter period. You may also want to make sure that the rule is not assigned to a different group than the vehicle you are trying to monitor. Lastly, the exception rule itself will not send notifications unless set up to do so in the notifications tab. Otherwise, you will have to go into the database and run an exceptions report to view each occurrence.
I have also included a step-by-step set of instructions on how to complete this task below.
- Navigate to Rules & Groups
- Select Rules
- Press the Pencil Icon next to the Idling Rule
- Select Conditions
- Click Add zone or zone type
- Choose Zone or Zone Type
- Select desired zone or zone type from drop-down
- Click Inside
